Establishment of the Institution

On 14th June, 1896, in the village ‘Hingne’ near Pune city, Maharshi Karve started a “Home for Widows”, along with a school for Widows, so that they become educated and self-reliant. Development of the Institution

Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, Pune has branches all over Maharashtra in India and more than 35,000 girl students are learning in these institutions. Over the period of last 124 years, the Institution has grown like a banyan tree and at present it runs 65 educational and other units under its umbrella. These units are located in Pune, Satara, Wai, Ratnagiri, Nagpur, Kamshet and Vasai. All these units are meant exclusively for girls or women. We also have hostel and medical facilities for students and working women and old age homes for senior citizens.

The Institution offers education from Kindergarten, Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary, and Higher Secondary schools to Higher Education Colleges. At present the Institution runs higher education units like Engineering, Architecture, Management, Nursing, Fashion Technology, Vocational Training Institute, Laser Technology & Applications, Jewelry Design, etc. With the changing trends in the jobs market, the courses like Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, laser technology, and Automotive Mechatronics are also planned in near future.

Cummins Fellowship program

Cummins Fellowship Program at Purdue University (USA) since 2004.
Cummins Inc. and Purdue University offer scholarships to the selected four students- two for Computer and Information Technology School (CIT) and two for Mechanical Engineering School (ME).
Since 2004, 47 students are benefited.
Cummins India Foundation has declared Cummins College as their Signature Project.
The aim of the Signature Project is to enhance Academic Facilities in Cummins College.

Innovation

The Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India has established ‘MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC) with the aim to systematically foster the culture of Innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions. The main directive is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes. It encourages Higher Education Institutes to create ‘Institution Innovation Councils (IICs)’. The major focus of IIC is based on ideas like – creating a vibrant local innovation ecosystem, have a start-up supporting mechanism and develop better cognitive ability for the students.

Our college established the Institution Innovation Council in February 2021. The core team includes an eminent scientist, IPR Expert / Practitioner, senior college faculty members and alumni entrepreneurs along with a team of student members. Since its inception, the cell has organized sessions by renowned personalities in the field of Innovation, IPR, Startups and Entrepreneurship. With the help of the IIC, Cummins College 2 students from the 2020 batch – Ms. Shalmali Kadu and Ms. Medha Moorching started their own LLP- ‘Alvara Solutions’.
