Tech Software Engineering was started in the year 2003.
The year 2004 witnessed the starting of three M.Tech programs: Computer Applications in Industrial drives, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, and Digital Communications.
ISO 9001 Certification was conferred on MSRIT in 2000 and re-certifications were obtained in 2003, 2007, and 2010.
MSRIT voluntarily submitted applications to the NBA for the accreditation of several of its major UG programs. After the assessment, in February 2001, the NBA accorded accreditation to all the major departments of the Institute for their UG programs. Since then the Institute has been consistently participating in the accreditation process.
MSRIT participated in and completed Phase I of TEQIP, Technical Education Quality Improvement Program, an initiative of the Government of India with funding from the World Bank. MSRIT has been selected to participate in Phase II of TEQIP under sub–component 1.2 with a focus on PG Education and Research.
Visvesvaraya Technological University granted Autonomous Status to MSRIT, for both UG and PG Programmes, in the year 2007, and the same was approved by UGC also.

Schneider Electric: RIT has signed a memorandum of understanding with global energy management company Schneider Electric to promote technical excellence in the field of electronics, software, and control engineering. The MoU covers “university partnership for curriculum development” and through this arrangement, RIT has developed two courses – advanced industrial automation and modern controls, and energy management.

JSW Energy Centre of Excellence (JSWECE). RIT entered into a MoU with US$8 Billion Company JSW Energy for offering a one-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Power Plant Engineering for engineering graduates

Intel Center of Excellence: International microprocessor giant Intel agreed with RIT to open a Centre of Excellence in January 2010. The event was attended by Scott Ape Land who is the Director of Developer Networks at Intel, USA. The program aims at faculty development and inclusion of Intel processors in the curricula of RIT. This center is the only one of its kind in Karnataka.

Cognizant Technology Solutions is entering into an agreement with RIT in collaboration to create industry-specific courses for students.

Autodesk has recognized M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology as one of the Zonal Centres for the YEARLY CAD DESIGN CONTEST.

Autodesk has awarded Sunith Babu L from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology as India’s First Autodesk Certified Instructor.
